Some news deserves a pause and a public thank you. Life Way magazine has featured my new book, Why I Decided to Believe in God, in its pages. I am grateful, and I want to tell you briefly why this particular book means as much to me as it does.
A word of thanks
Writing a book is a solitary act. Getting it into the hands of readers is not. It depends on people who decide that a book is worth their attention and their space, and who then say so to their own readers. Life Way magazine did exactly that. To the editors and writers who gave the book room, thank you. You have introduced it to people I could never have reached on my own.
Why this book exists
Why I Decided to Believe in God is not a book I could have written as a young man. It came out of a long detour. For twelve years I set out to disprove God. I did not do it casually or as a pose; I did it seriously, and I did it honestly. At the end of those twelve years, the evidence had turned me around. I did not decide to believe because belief was comfortable. I decided to believe because I could no longer argue my way around what I had found.
The book is my attempt to set that journey down so that an ordinary reader can follow it: the questions I asked, the answers I expected, and the answers I actually found. I wrote it for the skeptic and for the believer alike, because both of them deserve to see the evidence laid out rather than asserted.
Why a feature like this matters
A magazine feature should never be about an author’s ego. It matters because of who it reaches. Somewhere a reader will open that issue who has been quietly wrestling with the same questions I wrestled with for twelve years. If the feature leads that reader to the book, and the book leads that reader to look honestly at the evidence, then every hour spent writing it was worth it.
Why I Decided to Believe in God is available on Amazon and at major bookstores. If you read it, I would love to hear what you think. And if you are still somewhere in the middle of your own twelve years, I ask only one thing: keep going honestly. That is what I did, and it led me home.
